After Every Storm Comes a Rainbow

April 28, 2020 By Quality Heating & Sheet Metal

Throughout these days of uncertainty, we all have had many different decisions to make. Our lives have forever been changed by this pandemic that surrounds us. My question to everyone is this: through all this chaos, has your attitude been “sink or swim” or “rise to the occasion”? I say dig deep and work harder to overcome the challenges.

The many obstacles that I have had to confront while working in an essential service industry have made life very interesting. They are nothing compared to those that have had firsthand experience with COVID-19 but are all unique experiences that our company has never had to deal with before. A couple of the changes that have been implemented are the virtual meetings we conduct to safely provide a premium level of service and the rollout of products that can help enhance indoor air quality during a pandemic (ultra-violet lights and special filtration systems/equipment). The biggest challenge during this trying time is to keep our employees working while managing the day to day events and keeping the health and wellbeing of our customers/employees as our top priority. I always feel a bit awkward when wearing the personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, booties while disinfecting before and after each call) to go into people’s homes, but it has become normal to me at this point. It is amazing what can become normal to a person.

I have tried to rise to the occasion instead of letting this negatively affect my work ethic or mood. I have accomplished all of my “honey to-do list” at home, spent more time with my family than I have ever been able to in the past, and thought of new and creative ideas to which I can apply towards the work campaign, and so much more. I would challenge those currently feeling a little frustrated about what is going on to push forward and make the best of the situation.

When this all started, I was a bit disappointed with how people were acting: the hoarding of toiletries, price gouging, etc. As events play out, there are so many people that have come together while still 6 feet apart.

Get creative, put a smile on someone’s face each day, call a friend to connect, have a game night over Zoom, or whatever puts a smile on your face.

After every storm comes a rainbow!

Glass Half Empty or Glass Half Full

April 24, 2020 By Quality Heating & Sheet Metal

With everything going on in our present state, it is hard not to get discouraged and stressed out.  I have watched and heard some harsh facts on television and on the radio that really have gotten me to think about my game plan.  I am sure it has done the same for everyone else.  Here is an inspirational writing. Whether completely fact or not, it is still a very pleasant thing to think about.

“When this all ends -AND IT WILL… Every game will sell out, every restaurant will have a two hour wait, every kid will be glad to be in school, everyone will love their job, the stock market will skyrocket, every other house will get TP’d and we’ll embrace and shake hands.  That’s gonna be a pretty good day.  Hang in there, world!”

A person can choose to take the time they are given positively or sit and wallow in misery.  The confinement to our homes, road bans, layoffs, etc. can be turned to something good also.  This is time with our families, betterment of our business practices, future planning.  We have finally gotten the time to play catch up rather than flying by the seats of our pants.  I know that at Quality Heating, we have been working on our up-coming season, specials to offer, the virtual side of things; fife goes on!  We have been trying to find ways that our company can really contribute to the fight against this virus.  Providing better quality of air or purifying the air. Ultra-violet lights are great products to purify a person’s indoor air quality.  I personally love the idea that it fights against allergies, removes viruses, bacteria, dust mites, foul odors, etc.  Providing heathy purified air is one of the healthiest things a person can do for their self.

Window Condensation

January 26, 2017 By Quality Heating & Sheet Metal

In fall and winter, moisture may be seen accumulating on windows. In many cases, the reason is due to excessive indoor humidity levels. Window condensation may also be a visual indication of other indoor air quality issues, with odors and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) trapped in the home.

In the Midwest and Northeast, during the summer and fall, the indoor RH (relative humidity) normally ranges from 40-60%. Moving from fall into winter, as the outdoor temperatures drop, condensation starts to occur on the bottom of the windows. The window temperature is the coldest there, the dew point is reached, and window condensation appears as a result.

Better building practices, spray foam insulation, house wrap and other materials used in new homes trap moisture inside – leading to window condensation. Sources of humidity are cooking, showers, washing clothes, perspiration, or breathing. Frequently, the bath ventilation fans are low quality, improperly ducted and not operated long enough (due to excessive noise) to help reduce humidity.

Excess humidity must be lowered to a more acceptable level, usually between 30-40% RH. An ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) or air exchanger can accomplish this efficiently, without opening windows, thus saving energy. Odors from cleaning materials, pets, and cooking can also be flushed from the home.

In winter months, the ventilator exhausts stale inside air while bringing in an equal amount of fresh outside air. Much of the heat energy from the exhausting air is recaptured over to the incoming fresh air stream, thus the term air to air heat exchanger is used for this type of IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) appliance. Some moisture is recaptured into the fresh air stream, so the indoor humidity is not entirely depleted.

The system can also be operated during the summer with air conditioning. The ERV may utilize existing HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) ductwork, or operate as a stand alone system.

Zoned Heating and Air Conditioning Systems Milwaukee

October 12, 2016 By Quality Heating & Sheet Metal

HVAC Zoning, zoned heating, zoned air conditioning, quality heatingWe get the calls every cooling season from homeowners saying, “I have to set my thermostat downstairs so cold I have to wear a sweater, just to get it cool enough upstairs to sleep”. It’s a common problem in homes. It’s also a problem that for most homes can be fixed by installing zoned heating or air conditioning on your existing system.

Today more cars are offering the individual driver and passenger temperature controls or multi-zone climate control for each row of seats. Why not climate control your home?

zoned heating, zonefirst, zoned air conditioning, quality heatingHomes with only one central thermostat cannot properly control the temperature throughout all rooms of the building. A thermostat located on the first floor cannot ensure comfort for a room on another floor. This is why zoned heating and air conditioning is needed in every home and every office. If you have a light switch for every room, why not a thermostat? Zoning makes perfect sense!

Zoning gives a homeowner separate thermostats in each unique heating and cooling zone throughout a home. When a zone reaches its desired temperature, the airflow is shut off to that zone and the airflow to that zone is redirected to the zone that still needs heating or cooling. Besides keeping you comfortable, zoning saves energy dollars.

Contact the Milwaukee area HVAC experts at Quality Heating today for more information on our ZoneFirst temperature control systems.

Milwaukee Furnace Cleaning

October 12, 2016 By Quality Heating & Sheet Metal

With ice, snow, and frosty temperatures as the weather forecast for much of the year in Wisconsin, anytime is a good time to ensure your furnace is ready to face another Wisconsin winter with some helpful Milwaukee furnace maintenance tips. The first step in ensuring your furnace is operating efficiently and safely is a thorough furnace cleaning. Cleaning your furnace’s blower, coils, and filter will provide the warm clean air your family deserves and improve your furnace’s efficiency resulting in increased monthly energy savings.

Milwaukee Furnace Cleaning Services

Shutting off the gas and electrical power to your Milwaukee HVAC system is critical before performing any Milwaukee furnace maintenance or furnace cleaning work. Take the following steps to safely turn off the gas and electrical feed to your HVAC system.

  • TURN THE HVAC SYSTEM OFF – Cut the power by tripping the circuit breaker or removing your HVAC unit’s fuse. If you’re unsure which circuit the HVAC system is on, remove the main power fuse or trip the main breakers to shut down power to the entire facility.
  • CUT THE HVAC SYSTEM’S GAS SUPPLY – Your Milwaukee HVAC system should have a gas shutoff valve located inside the furnace. Rotate the valve a quarter turn to the OFF position. If your HVAC system does not have its own gas shutoff valve, you’ll have to cut the gas supply to the entire property by turning off the main gas shutoff valve (usually located near the gas meter). Please note, only a certified Milwaukee heating contractor or other utility professional can safely and successfully restore your property’s gas supply.

If you encounter any problems shutting off your home’s electricity or gas, contact a Milwaukee heating contractor from Quality Heating at 262.786.4450 before performing any furnace maintenance cleaning.
